The first SATA Working Group was formed in 2000 to address the limitations of the parallel technology. Once the SATA standard was in place, the founding members proceeded to form The SATA II Working Group in 2002 to advance the SATA specification to the next level. Being an organization comprised of volunteers, the new organization was rather limited on the efforts it could put forth.
The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) was formed in July of 2004 by unifying the older Serial ATA Working Group with many of today's leading technology manufactures and developers. Members of the SATA-IO have the ability to influence, or directly contribute to
the development of the SATA specifications. The Board of Directors for SATA-IO are Dell Computer, HP, Hitachi, Intel, Maxtor, Seagate and Vitesse. Membership is comprised of leading companies in storage, desktop, hard drive and consumer electronics. For a complete list of participating members, please visit: SATA-IO Member List.
